L-Blue
The Statue of Liberty has always represented more to me than a monument. She carries layers of hope, struggle, freedom, belonging, and the promise of a new beginning. In the Liberty Series, I take this instantly recognizable symbol and break it apart, rebuilding it through hundreds of individually stamped squares on a deeply textured surface.
From across the room, L-Blue gathers those fragments into the familiar silhouette of the Statue of Liberty. Come closer, and the image begins to dissolve. Individual squares, ridges, breaks, and variations in the surface reveal themselves, asking you to slow down and look again. The painting changes with your distance - and with your attention.
L-Blue gives this interpretation of the Statue of Liberty a sense of depth, trust, belonging, and quiet reflection. It speaks to the emotional side of freedom - not only the freedom to begin again, but the desire to feel grounded, connected, and at home. Against the textured surface, the blue becomes both calm and contemplative, inviting the viewer to pause and consider what liberty means beyond the symbol itself.
Perhaps that is what makes the Statue of Liberty such a lasting symbol: we each bring our own history, hopes, memories, and understanding to her. Freedom may be a shared ideal, but the way we experience it is deeply personal.
Living with L-Blue is an invitation to slow down and keep looking - to find a sense of familiarity from across the room, discover unexpected details up close, and allow the painting's meaning to evolve with your own experiences.
L-Blue is the second of six paintings in the Liberty Series, each exploring the same enduring symbol through a different color and emotional perspective.
*Please note that this piece is part of an ongoing exhibition and it has to stay on display until 12/30/2026.
